If you have ever opened a slime and found it too sticky, too stiff, or just not quite right, activator is likely the answer. But knowing when and how to use it makes all the difference.
What Does an Activator Do?
Activator is the ingredient that gives slime its structure. It works by creating bonds between the polymer chains in glue, turning a liquid into the stretchy, satisfying texture you are after. Too little activator and your slime stays sticky. Too much and it becomes stiff and breaks easily. The goal is balance.
When Should You Use It?
A small amount of activator can help if your slime has become sticky after storage or handling, especially in warmer weather when slime naturally softens. Add it slowly, a few drops at a time, and knead thoroughly between each addition. It is always easier to add more than to fix an over-activated slime.
A Word of Caution
Activator contains a mild borax solution, so we always recommend that younger children use slime with an adult nearby, and that everyone washes their hands before and after play. If your child has sensitive skin, limit contact time and rinse well afterwards.
